Hello, I'm Emma

Project manager, parent, and expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

A few years back I moved here with my family, and what began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.

How It Started

Moving to Netherlands wasn't part of the long-range plan. As with many expat moves, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.

The opening months were challenging — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and higher expectations. Everyday tasks seemed tougher than they needed to be.

The Adjustment Period

Culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of learning by doing were part of it. Yet, gradually routines settled in. We found places that fit us, met other families, and started building something that felt steady.

Why I Built LakesideAtelier

Most online guidance was either corporate relocation tips or surface-level tourist material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.

This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Netherlands.

What This Site Is (And Isn't)

This site is:

  • Hands-on experience from living in Netherlands
  • Centered on family life and daily realities
  • Updated when there is a genuine change

This site isn't:

  • An official tourism authority resource
  • A sponsored review platform
  • A generic travel blog

Looking Ahead

Our stay in Netherlands continues, and the learning journey goes on. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue recording our discoveries.

If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Best regards,

Emma
